


Listed blow are recipes that have been used in home and careers Classes. If you are going to prepare one of these recipes at home, please remember all the safety and sanitation rules we discussed. you should have your parent's permission before beginning any recipe.
Remember, as always , to read the entire recipe thoroughly and be sure you understand what you will be required to do as well as insuring that you have all the ingredients. Follow the directions! Do not simply look at the ingredients and start adding. remember the directions will tell you what to add when and how it needs to be handled.
Remember to clean up after you are finished! Leave the kitchen the same way you found it: clean, neat and organized!!
1.) Banana Bread
3 Bananas – Ripe and Peeled
½ c Shortening
1 c Sugar
1 Egg
1 t Vanilla
1 1/4 c Flour
1 t Baking Soda
1/2 t Salt
1.) Grease an 8 x 8 pan with a small amount of shortening (NOT from the 1/2 you just measured - use a paper towel and take some from the shortening container and spread it in the pan. Be sure to apply to the corners as well as up the sides and across the bottom. If you do not grease it completely, your banana bread will stick!).
2.) In a bowl place peeled bananas and using a fork mash them
3.) Add the sugar, egg, shortening and vanilla to the mashed bananas and stir until incorporated. You will see bits of shortening. This is expected.
4.) Add the flour, salt and baking soda and using a wooden spoon stir until the flour is incorporated. Do not over mix. The batter will appear lumpy.
5.) Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comers out clean.
6.) Cut into 16 pieces

2.) Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
1 cup flour
1 cup oatmeal
½ cup brown sugar
¼ sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
¼ cup of melted margarine
¼ cup oil
½ cup chocolate chips
Recipe Yields: 18
bars

1.) Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
2.) Mix all ingredients by hand in a mixing bowl.
3.) Spread dough into a 8 inch square pan (DO NOT grease the pan!)
4.) Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
5.) After baking sprinkle an additional 1/2 cup of chocolate chips on top, wait a few minutes for it to melt and spread over the top of your pan.
6.) Cool and cut into 18 bars

Brownies
2 squares of unsweetened chocolate
1/3 cup margarine
2/3 cup flour
½ t baking powder
¼ t salt
2 eggs
1 c sugar
1 t vanilla
In a small saucepan melt the chocolate and margarine. Be sure to stir constantly to prevent the chocolate from burning. Set aside to cool.
In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt.
In a bowl beat the eggs well, gradually add the sugar.
To the egg mixture in the large bowl, add the chocolate mixture and the vanilla. Mix in the flour mixture.
Spread in an 8 inch square pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes
Cool and cut into 16 squares
